John Radcliffe Appointment today

We had a check up appointment with the Cranio facial team at the John Radcliffe Hospital today.

Everything seems to be ticking along nicely, Billy’s head is a bit longer than our last visit and his forehead a little more prominent but nothing to cause alarm. Consultant said as things stand Billy will need the front and back of his head re-modelled but they will decide for definite when he is admitted for surgery.

Still no exact date for surgery but Consultant said we are looking at the end of the year (so right in the middle of the initial 12-15 month estimate) and our date will be sent out to us soon.

Another tooth!

Discovered this morning that Billy had sprouted another tooth over night. He’s now got both his bottom central teeth (well a little bit of them anyway)

Luckily he likes having his teeth cleaned and will quite happily chomp on his toothbrush as we attempt to brush them!

Mummy is back at work

I’m standing in the rain at a bus stop near the end of my second week back at work.

By now Daddy will have Billy all tucked up in his bed, having read his night time story (The Little White Owl), given him his milk, done the dummy dance and kissed him goodnight.

Working past bedtime sucks.

How do I get through here?

Billy can now crawl upstairs so the stair gates have been put up. He finds them quite interesting if a little annoying!

DADs VIEW – Sleepy Singing

So this is my first ‘Dad Post’. I’ll always make it clear in the title that it’s me posting, rather than my beautiful wife, that way if I make a fool of myself you’ll know not to blame her!

To ease myself into this I thought I’d tell you about the song we came up with to calm our DS to sleep. As most things do, it started small with a vague tune stuck in my head and a couple of nonsense words just so he could hear my voice.

Over the next few nights it developed, the words were pinned down, new verses were written and, most importantly Billy started to really enjoy it.

Now, several months later it’s one of the strongest tool in our arsenal when getting him to calm down, or getting him to stay still long enough to start thinking about sleep. I’ve even heard some of our friends babies have responded well to it as well, but they could just be being nice 🙂

So what is it called? The song is called ‘Go to sleep Billy’ and is available for your listening pleasure on YouTube below (vocals and guitar by me, all other instruments courtesy of GarageBand) –

The lyrics are below, I hope you enjoy.

Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea
Go to sleep Billy
Who went to see the sea
He got in a boat
And his oar he forgot
And now he’s on the ocean
Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea

Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea
Go to sleep Billy
Who went to see the sea
He boarded a ship
And his mind it did slip
The map to get him home again
Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea

Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea
Go to sleep Billy
Who went to see the sea
When he landed ashore
a dragon he saw
his breath as warm as bed time
Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea

Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea
Go to sleep Billy
Who went to see the sea
He jumped in a lake
With fishes did make
fast friends to last a lifetime
Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea

Go to sleep my Billy
Far out to sea
Go to sleep Billy
Who went to see the sea
With whales did he swim
and courage he brims
as he looked to find a way home
Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea

Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea
Go to sleep Billy
Who went to see the sea
The mermaid he found
Did turn him around
And brought him home to mummy
Go to sleep Billy
Far out to sea

Go to sleep Billy
Safe here with me.

Lessons in feeding ducks

Took Billy to the park to feed the ducks today. He enjoyed watching the ducks but needs further lessons in how to feed them. Every bit of bread I gave him to throw to them he decided to eat himself! The ducks still got fed though so everyone was happy 🙂

Good news about Billy’s kidney

Had a check up with one of Billy’s consultants today and it’s good news regarding his left kidney. According to his latest test results the operation to remove a blockage seems to have worked. His kidneys are now equal in function and the dilation has reduced.

He needs another check up in March but for now, success!
